Came out to investigate a no cool. We found the disconnect fuse pulled. After plugging it back in, nothing happened. Pulled the door off and found the capacitor was missing from the unit and wires were disconnected from the contactor. After installing a new capacitor and rewriting the contactor, we started the unit, only to have the compressor not kick in. Only the fan would run. We tested voltage and had 260v going to the compressor. We also ohmed the wires and discovered the bearings were worn out. Compressor motor is bad and caused the no cool. Average life of system is 12-14 years. Unit is currently 27 years old. Due to age, condition, and cost to repair, second opinion is recommended.
