Basement furnace gas valve failed and was feeding gas to pilot light without lit flame. Homeowner stated they turned gas valve switch off before I arrived and haven’t smelt gas since. System is very old and recommend replacement. Homeowner does not want to do anything at this time as they are not using heat. Will call if they when ready to replace
