Arrived on site to perform diagnostic on 1994 unit. Sean states that system is not cooling. Breaker trips immediately when he turns the system on. Cycled system for cooling. Breaker tripped and unit did not come on. Performed electrical diagnosis and found compressor is shorted out internally, which is causing breaker to trip immediately when contactor engages. Went into attic and found that fan motor is not spinning to its full speed. Sean also mentioned that refrigerant has had to be added to the unit a couple times, which means compressor has probably ran dry a couple times in this past. This and the lack of airflow more than likely contributed to the compressor issues. Went over findings with Sean. He would like me to relay the information over to his dad. Left disconnect off, unit is not operational upon departure. John would like the information and quote for repair emailed over.
