Performed diagnostic on 1998 system. Upon arrival, homeowner stated that system is working fine at the moment, but earlier the system was having a hard time keeping up with set point temperature. Still wants the system looked at. Has lived in the home for a little over a year now, has never had a maintenance done. System was in cool mode and running upon arrival. Set point temperature was 72 degrees, indoor temperature is 75 degrees. Checked outdoor unit electrical and system components. Condenser fan motor is over amping, and has started to leak oil. Primary motor control is completely burnt and pitted. Secondary motor control is out of range for compressor side. Compressor is pulling in high amperage, and is extremely close to overamping. It could be very possible that system is overamping, and compressor is shutting off during the peak of the heat during the day. System is very old and inefficient, and is operating on r-22 refrigerant which was phased out at the start of the year.
