Performed diagnostic on 20 year old rheem system. We were out here last week to diagnose the downstairs unit, did not look at upstairs unit. Homeowner states that his upstairs system is not working, seems like it is doing the same thing as the downstairs one. Cycled system for cooling. Indoor unit is not blowing any air. Checked indoor unit electrical and system components. System is recieving proper low voltage command as well as high voltage power, but fan motor is not turning on. Found a bad secondary motor control for indoor fan motor that was not allowing fan motor to turn on. With homeowner approval went ahead and replaced secondary motor control. Cycled system, indoor motor came on normally. Checked temperature split and found unit to only be producing a 10 degree split. Checked refrigerant pressures and found unit slightly low on refrigerant. Explained to homeowner what it means when a unit is low on refrigerant, and that system has most likely developed a leak.
