Arrived on site to perform diagnostic on 14 year old unit. Homeowner states that upstairs system is not cooling. Has not worked for about a month. Cycled system for cooling. Thermostat is extremely finiky and they have to play with it for a while before they can get it to go into the cooling mode. System finally kicked on and indoor unit is blowing air, outdoor unit is not responsive. Checked outdoor unit electrical and system components. Found a bad secondary motor control for both compressor and condenser fan motor that was not allowing the system to turn on. Put in new secondary motor control and cycled system on. Refrigerant pressures are in range and system is producing proper temperature split. Amp draws for compressor and condenser fan motor are within range. Compressor start up amps are high. Unit is operating on r-22 refrigerant. Went over findings and recommendations with homeowner. Went over maintenance program. With approval replaced secondary motor control as well as repla
