Arrived on site to perform diagnostic on 15 year old unit. Homeowner stated that it’s not cooling and the system sounds a lot louder than it normally does. The other day she also noticed that the condenser motor was not turning on. Cycled system for cooling. Unit kicked on but air is not cold, but also not completely hot. Checked outdoor unit electrical and system components. Compressor is extremely loud and running amps are 30.1 which is extremely high. Found a completely dead secondary motor control for compressor. Compressor hard start kit was the only reason that compressor was still turning on but it was not compressing refrigerant the way that it should and was working harder than it should and causing refrigerant pressures to be way off. Also fan motor was not wired in correctly and was connected into compressor terminal on secondary motor control. Corrected wiring and put in new secondary motor control to fully test equipment. Cycled for cooling. Compressor amp draws with new
