Today James revisited the home to provide a second perspective on the diagnosis of the AC unit. The system has a refrigerant leak at the compressor connection. To repair the leak the compressor will need replaced. Typically this repair would point to a system replacement but not in this situation. The Steinbergs have a major home renovation planned for early next year. When the renovation is completed there will be 700-800 additional square feet and a new HVAC plan will be needed. With this project looming it is best to repair the system at this time and plan for a complete system redesign with the home renovation project. The system was recharged with refrigerant to get by until the new compressor is available and the repair scheduled.
