Warranty: compressor locked out on locked rotor amp draws. Reset and cycled outdoor unit multiple times, and compressor rotor locked out and tripped thermal lockout. Installed hardstart kit on compressor capacitor, cycled unit several times and no more tripping. Recommend installing surge protection on outdoor equipment to prevent overheating of compressor and oil breakdown. Installing single component surge protectors on both outdoor units.

Ac repair: evaporator coil has some dirt and dust buildup. Thermostat is in the living room and return is in the hallway, there is an approximate 6 degree temperature difference between the thermostat temperature and return air temperature. These two issues coupled with lower outdoor temperatures and rain could have caused the pressures to drop below freezing. Recommend cleaning the coil and moving the thermostat closer to the return.

Diagnostic : ac was freezing up door to air handler was off on arrival. Blower was running fine. Pressures were off due to the door not being properly secured. As soon as the door was put back on and the unit started up pressures stabilized and were fine. Coil temp was 38 after observing for 20 and did not freeze back up. I removed door from unit to test it and it immediately began to freeze again. Door needs to be properly secured in order for unit to function properly. House currently getting a 17.6 degree split subcool is a recommend target 13.
