Customer replaced the dual run capacitor and installed a hard soft by themselves. These were repairs recommended last heating check up. The drain line did drain but the unit does not have any form of safety device to prevent flooding in the event the drain backs up. I recommended EZ Trap. I checked the electrical wiring and electrical systems, all are within specification. I operated the unit on cooling mode. The unit uses a fixed orifice metering device. As the unit ran longer the superheat started to approach 20 degrees and subcooling never went above 3-4 degrees. Unit is cooling with 20+ degree delta temperatures across the evaporator coil but there has been a loss of refrigerant that will only get worse with time. I recommended doing an electronic leak search and gave them customer several estimates depending on the results of the leak search. Customer does not want to move forward with any repairs at this time and is still not interested in becoming a member.
I operated the unit on heat and auxiliary heat stages. Electric back up heat strips energized as designed. The refrigerant pressures were within normal range and the defrost cycle was forced and it completed. I checked the electrical wiring and electrical systems, the run capacitor for the outdoor fan motor has dropped below specification and should be replaced. I also recommend adding a hard start kit to the compressor circuit. I spoke with the customer about both these items and prepared estimates. Other than these minor repairs the unit is operating normal. Customer signed up for a service membership.
