My hot water heater was no longer working and I couldn’t get the pilot light back on. I called Tiger Plumbing because they have sent a ton of marketing mailers to my residence. Here’s the good part! They answered the phone, the were able to schedule a same day appt, and I was ready to get my free estimate. The guys came in, they looked around…and came up and said the appliance is shot and they recommend a new one. I asked how much…. This is where the good stuff stops. The tech looked at me directly in my face and advised that a 40 gallon gas water heater was going to cost anywhere from $3500-$6500. I asked why, he said there was a code change in 2012 that would require a bunch of custom work on the appliance. The previous tank was installed in 2010 (for $750). All the local codes were updated in 2005, so now I know that this company is not an honest one. (I never did get a written estimate and the cost to replace is around $1k from another provider.) After the techs left I crawled down there and pulled out the plate and cleaned the igniter. Was able to turn the heater back on and it’s stayed on. Please do you due diligence, which you are if you are reading this.
