Called out today due to no cooling. Upon arrival client told me that the system will not go below 80 degrees during the day and runs for hours at a time. Upon arrival the air handler was running but the condenser was not. Compressor makes screeching noise when it attempts to start. The system is completely empty of refrigerant. Explained to the client that the system is out of warranty as operates on R22 refrigerant which is no longer manufactured. It’s still available it at an astronomical price per pound. No get this system running we would be looking at a new compressor, new R22 refrigerant, filter drier, and a leak search and repair. At the age and price of repair… replacement is a wiser choice. Left system off at the thermostat but left the fan on. Comfort consultant will be out at 5 pm today to give options for replacement. Thank you for always choosing Total Air!
