Resolved a case of a habitual offender client facing 25 to 99 years for assaulting and injuring several corrections officers. This case had some unusual facts that made the prosecutor more difficult to persuade. After much consultation, preparation, and back and forth negotiations with the prosecutor, we ended up with a plea deal for 6 years minus almost two years of back time. It turns out to be a pretty good deal as having a jury trial in a prison community is rather a low probability gamble. For example, another attorney had recently tried a prison case there and his jury panel of 60 held 5 TDCJ employees. Not our ideal jury.
