Glad we got this one finished. Stay safe.
Posting bonds at the Rowlett municipal court for somebody who's being held in Dallas County. He should be released sometime tonight.
Doing a phone consultation with a gentleman who was arrested for possession of marijuana under 2 ounces. It looks like the officer might have made a bad stop; we'll have to look at the dash cam video to know. An officer has to have a valid reason to make a traffic stop. Looking tense as you pass by is not enough. If they don't have a valid reason for the stop, it's often possible to get the evidence suppressed and the whole case thrown out. But a bad stop is not the same as a bad search. And a bad search doesn't always equal a bad arrest. There are a lot of factors that go into whether a police officer followed correct police procedure and whether their failure to do so would lead to the suppression of evidence. A top criminal defense lawyer will know where to look, what's important and what's not. Police officers learn that bad police work is often good enough. In fact, they may not even know they're doing things wrong. But if sloppy procedure is never challenged it does the job.
Just got an assault case dismissed in the City of Rowlett Municipal Court.
Client's disregard traffic control device traffic ticket was dismissed in Rowlett today for defective complaint. Even the little criminal defense victories feel good.
Working out plea bargains on my client's traffic tickets and fail to appear tickets so she may minimize the amount she has to pay to resolve these matters, keep the tickets from becoming convictions, avoid surcharges and avoid further license suspensions.
2 of 4 cases dismissed at Rowlett Municipal Court and the other 2 will be dismissed at the end of the deferred.
