The LED light on the gas control valve indicated that the temperature sensor has failed. This means that the gas control valve Hass to be completely swapped out. Turned the water off to the tank and drain it completely out. Followed Honeywell step-by-step instructions of disassembling and removing the faulty gas control valve and performing all of the prep work for the installation of the new one. Being that this tank is 10 years old the honey well gas control valve is not the most recent model. After getting the newest model installed and the gas back on and the tank filled I set the thermostat at 120 and let them know if they want it to be a hotter they need to turn it up themselves. While the tank was drained I removed the mixing valve on top of the hot water heater.
