Removed fan from the out door unit, recovered existing refrigerant, took out old compressor and filter dryer, flowed nitrogen while replacing compressor and filter dryer, ran vacuum down to 495 microns, added 8 1/2lbs of R-410A back into system (charged system based on subcool due to the lack of ambient heat) and tested system, system is fully functional and operating within manufacturer specifications at this time. System is noticeably quieter after replacing compressor. Videos and photos added below.

Arrived to noisy outdoor unit Tested fan and compressor separately, compressor is the source of noise. Tightened compressor retaining bolts to ensure compressor was secure to the bottom of the unit. Placed gauges on equipment to attempt to determine the cause of the noise. Initially identified extremely low return air temperature, and found a faulty bypass damper that was allowing too much supplier to return directly to the system. Secured bypass closed and return temperature rose to normal. Once the bypass damper was closed and heat was allowed to get to the evaporator was able to determine that system was overcharged. Removed 2 lbs of r410 to see if the reduced workload on the compressor would quiet the compressor. No change was notes. Identified poor installation practices, system is physically too large for the space. The supply plenum is 6-8 inches tall with 14 inch ducts attached. Added 3lbs of R22 and adjusted fan speed from Low to Med to allow more heat absorbtion in evaporator. Refrigerant pressures are appropriate for indoor and outdoor conditions. System is cooling as designed. Temp split from supply to return was 10*, now 18* Saturation temp in evaporator was 20*, now 34* ( system will no longer freeze) Superheat was 58+*, now 5*

(2) Tune up Main Floor : System is fully functional. All components are operating within design tolerances. Refrigerant pressures and temperatures are appropriate for indoor and outdoor condition. 18* temp split across evap coil Upstairs : System has multiple problems. System has an indoor evaporator temp of 24*. Superheat is 50+*. The evaporator is not receiving the proper amount of refrigerant. This is caused by low refrigerant levels or a restriction. Unable to verify which until refrigerant is added. System is drawing 10 amps with a RLA of 13A. Capacitor is measuring 34.6 out of 45 micro-farads and is out of manufacturers to,erances. System is an R22 system.
