Discovered the outdoor system is completely out of Freon, found oil in the bottom of the condenser. Also found on the evaluation the coil restricted with clogged drain lines, the blower wheel on furnace is making a lot of noise caused by dirty blower wheel & motor. Tested what little Freon was left in unit found acidic Freon. A more thorough system evaluation revealed impending compressor failure due to highly acidic refrigerant oil, a likely indicator of further improper installation and/or poor maintenance. Acidic oil caused irreparable damage to the compressor in contact with refrigerant. While an effort to neutralize acid can be made to prevent further damages, extensive damage has already taken place for quite some time. Complete system replacement is the only cost effective solution that will ensure reliable Ac performance. I also recommend installing a zoning system for more effective cooling for upstairs and downstairs. A two store home should be zoned for proper cooling and
