"I'm at this customer's home in Pickerington to check out his non-working Carrier furnace.
Diagnostic Service Call on 1993 Ruud Heat Pump. Service work performed: Here for no cool on 27 year old Heat pump system. Indoor blower is coming on but outdoor unit is not coming on. Indoor airflow seems marginal. Outdoor unit came on when I Reset the high pressure cutout. Checked charge, superheat and subcooling are way out of range. Superheat is only at a 1, and Subcooling is at 15. Accumulator and compressor are rusting severely. Contacts are pitted and burnt, and compressor amps are high. System is operational at this time but not running very well. Would strongly consider replacing. Cannot guarantee the high-pressure cut out will not continue to trip due to higher than normal head pressure. Provided customer with estimate on replacing system.
Provided free in home estimate t replace existing 1986 Carrier Unit with New 2020 Carrier 16 SEER 3 Ton Air Conditioner
Checked gas pressure and made a small adjustment to that, and also saw that static pressure was high on the supply side. Found a few supply registers were closed upstairs so homeowner went around and made sure they were all open, she realized that quite a few of them were closed. after opening them 2014 Carrier furnace now runs without tripping high limit. Customer has not done routine preventative maintenance on system so I recommend joining the maintenance plan which customer did.
I provided the customer with a free in home estimate for a new Carrier 13 SEER 3.5 Ton Air Conditioner and a Carrier 96% 80,000 BTU Gas Furnace
On arrival checked 1983 Bryant heat pump system, and found system undercharged. Temp split is poor. Due to age and condition and presence of refrigerant leak recommended replacing. Provided customer with estimate, so she can discuss with husband later.
Installed a new Carrier furnace for the customer.
