I arrived to do a diagnostic on ac customer stated that he believed the unit was out of refrigerant that the outside unit fan was spinning but it wasn't cooling. After arriving to outside unit I found fan running but compressor not running. I Checked capacitor and found herm side reading 8 uF rated 45uF. So I Replaced capacitor and started unit. I Found that the system was over charged so I removed refrigerant to acquire desired superheat. System utilizes 410-a with a piston. At time of my departure system operational with a delta of 18 degrees.
upon my arrival for a bc/install of a Comfortmaker 13 SEER 1.5 Ton Air Conditioner customer advised me that system was not keeping up with stat. I Found refrigerant level within spec. Found return temp 90 degrees and temp at return grill 78. Led me to believe there was attic infiltration. After climbing in attic I found none of the ductwork insulated then found a large gap where they had attempted to pan off return to ceiling trusses. I Shoved a piece of insulation in gap to try and help until something more permanent can be put in place. they Will need to correctly Pan off gap with sheet metal and insulate duct work properly. I Will task install and general manager concerning working up a quote for customer and scheduling. At the time of my departure system is operational. I Also noticed the condensate drain to not have proper fall.
I went to the customer's home to give an estimate, but no one was home and no one would answer their phone.

I checked the temperature difference across the coil. Checked refrigerant charge, voltages and amps. I rinsed the condenser coils with water. Cycled and monitored the system. Operating normally at this time.
I installed a Five Star 13 SEER 1.5 Ton Air Conditioner. I cycled and monitored the system and it is operational at this time.
