Our furnace stopped working and my normal "go to" HVAC company wasn't available. My wife researched and found Five Star Heating & Cooling. It was a Saturday and they sent Ian out within 2 hours of our call. Ian was professional, wore a mask, and resolved the issue. No additional charge for Saturday service and he explained the issue. We definitely will be using Five Star H&C again!

I was in the market to replace my air conditioner and the furnace systems. I shopped around for features and prices. Evaluated four different brands and five different vendors. "I'm at this customer's home in Pickerington to check out his non-working Carrier furnace.
Upon arrival I gave the customer an Estimate on a Full Install.
Upon arrival I completed a Full Install of a Carrier 96% Gas Furnace 59SC5 (Up to 100,000 BTU) Honeywell T6 Programmable Thermostat/Emerson 1F85U Carrier 16 SEER Air Conditioner 24ABC6 (Up to 3 ton) The system is operational upon departure.
I completed diagnostics and found the compressor was operational but no fan.When pulling the power at disconnect found a wasp nest, needed to kill wasp and removed nest. I checked the dual capacitor . I need to make repair to further troubleshoot AC. I quoted repair and it was authorized and performed. Everything was operational when leaving.
I completed diagnostics and found just the fan was operational, no operation from compressor. I found a burnt terminal on the compressor side of capacitor. It needs repaired. I checked the dual capacitor and its not within spec. I quoted repair. There is no operation from compressor but system does have refrigerant I was not able to make contact with landlord, the tenant was not able to either. Tenant authorized repair and was performed. Everything was operational when leaving.
I completed diagnostics and found the fan blade does free spin but has some resistance. I removed the fan from condenser and found the bearings are starting to fail. The capacitor is not within spec. I quoted repair and it was authorized and performed. I checked filter - clean but it is a “hog hair” filter and recommended a pleated filter. Based on it age (16 years), having the outdated refrigerant, not having a warranty, condition, and the cost of needed future repairs I recommend planning on replacing AC in near future.
Upon arrival I gave the customer a quote on a Full Install.
I completed diagnostics and found the condenser fan motor failed. I explained repair / replacement options with customer. The customer opted to replace the condenser fan motor. I replaced motor and capacitor. The system is now operational. I found R22 pressures low which indicates there is a leak in the system. The customer gave me permission to add the R22 until proper pressures. The system is cooling on departure.

I completed diagnostics and found the system has a broken low voltage wire above finished ceiling in basement. I explained at this time I am unable to run to wire without causing extensive drywall damage. The office will call for senior tech to return. The system is not cooling, blower motor is operational.
