The technician came on a call for a humming noise complaint on the outdoor unit. He left with three options, 2 were repair bills, both over $2100, the third option was to purchase a whole new unit, inside and outside. The first repair included surge protection, which the technician strongly suggested. Your company has been servicing this equipment for years and no one has ever suggested surge protection. The cost of the surge protection appears to be under $150. During the scheduled checkup on the unit, 5 months ago, there were absolutely no concerns from that (different) technician. I am wondering if all of the repairs that are listed are actually needed or if they are like the surge protection, something the technician is "suggesting". I asked why this was not covered under the Service Plan, he said the cost of the repairs is over the $1000 limit. Again, I have to wonder if I really need all of the repairs or if he was driving the cost up, trying to sell a new unit. The last thing that really surprised me, the technician adjusted the temperature of the thermostat and left the unit running with it needing $2300 in repairs. I guess it really isn't broken after all. The girl answering the phone that scheduled the appointment was helpful. Thanks for the "technician is on his way" phone call.
