Service

The technician did a diagnosis without disclosing the $175 fee and getting a verbal agreement to go ahead with the work. We were under the impression there was no fee to take a look since we have a service agreement. Instead we were presented with a labor charge after the fact and told it would be waived if we did the recommended work.

Response from Western Heating & Air Conditioning (Lehi):

Thank you Jed for giving us your feedback, our operations coordinator will be reaching out to you to discuss your concerns.

Call for trouble cooling. Found the filter dirty so replaced with new one to make sure that airflow problems were not issues of cooling problems; these 1” filters ideally are replaced 1-2 months depending on usage any more it does start playing a role in poor efficiency and unnecessary wear and tear. Placed gauges on the equipment and found the pressures indicating a low refrigerant charge. Verified airflow with evaporator coil and on inspection of evaporator coil did notice some hot spots on heat exchangers. So checked to make sure equipment is safe to run for upcoming heating season on did find a crack forming around right most cell bottom rivet, picture taken for reference. Given current condition of furnace would recommend not running it until repairs are made. For cooling issues we would ideally look for leak and locate it and possibly repair before just topping off with refrigerant or else we will literally be throwing money to the wind. Recommendations refer to estimates.

Furnace tune up refer to health inspection report form. System electrical performing well. Blower motor itself is getting a bit dirty this can cause issues in longevity motor can begin having problems with cooling if air vents begin getting plugged up any further, ultimately as to why it is taking place is the filter method being used blower motor placed filters don’t do very well because the entire use they’re being pulled against nothing to hold and we end up getting a lot of bypass air making it into blower compartment. Static pressure is high and ultimately due to furnace being too big for the ductwork that is in use. Recommendations refer to estimates.

Today I came out for a furnace tuneup. The furnace was installed by us in 2011 and overall is in good working condition. While going through the unit I found it the filter was dirty as well as a humidifier pad so I switched out both of those today. The only other thing the system could use as far as preventative maintenance skills is a surge protector. Everything was working when I left. Please give us a call if you have any questions, thank you so much for having us out today!

No cool call on swamp cooler No power coming into the swamp cooler. Checked the panel to find melted incoming wires. 125 max amp panel put in 3 months ago by another company. Panel has 270 amps worth of breakers. Customer is having the other company come out to work on the panel Swamp cooler not running upon departure

Today I came out for a furnace tuneup. The furnace was installed in 2010 and is very very clean. While going through the unit everything tested very good for the age. The humidifier pad had quite a bit of build up so Jedediah decided to replace that today. When I left everything was working properly. Thank you for calling us out today!

The 2007 tempstar ac not working. Thermostat was saying y wire not connected. 24 volt wire at condenser had open wire. Blower motor cap weak. Changed both of those. The board is broken. The store is closed. We will need to come back tomorrow and replace the board. Ac not running when I left.

Call for trouble cooling and possible freezing. History gathered on equipment it has been freezing at some points during the day when running. From the sound of it 2 years ago a warranty company added refrigerant without looking for any leaks via with electronic leak detector or UV dye just added refrigerant and left it as is. Verified appropriate airflow through the system filter isn’t terribly dirty nor is the evaporator coil itself. Problem appears to be refrigerant flow related. Placed gauges on the equipment and found the system to be low on refrigerant the more the equipment runs the more ice that will eventually build up on the evaporator coil and the inability for the system to appropriately cool. Checked electrical components of the outdoor unit and even though we are low on refrigerant the system is pulling a bit more amps than would be expected from the equipment given its current state amp draws typically are lower on compressor when low on refrigerant because very litt

Performed an ac and furnace tune up. Both systems are operating within full specs. System does not have surge protectors on them. Warranties do not cover surges. You signed up on the wsc. Systems up and running when i left.

Performed a furnace tune up today, only thing is bad air filter causing bad air flow, I recommend a gas drip leg and safety wet switch. Drip leg will help prevent blockages, safety wet switch can help prevent damage to the equipment from flooding. Furnace was running upon departure.

System is 22-23 years old. It is original to the house. System is on its way out. Main problems today are: 1) The capacitor in the outdoor unit has failed. This makes it hard for the compressor and fan motors to come on. 2) The fan motor is failing. The windings and ball bearings are failing. This adds extra resistance, extra wear on the motor and causes it to not work effectively, some times not at all. 3) The compressor motor is not “ohming” properly. This refers to a test to measure the resistance and function of the electrical windings inside the motor. When the motor does not “ohm” properly this indicates the motor is failing. 4) The furnace filter needs to be changed. 5) The overall static pressure is very high. This refers to the airflow and how well it is moving through the ducts. The recommended max by the manufacturer is 0.5 inWc (inches of water columns). Currently the system is reading at 0.9. This tells us that there are significant restrictions in the duc

I responded to the call today. Rob stated that the fan would not turn on by itself but would when the AC or Heat were tuning on. Upon inspection I found that the fan was turning on but only at 25% of the total fan speed. I turned the percentage up to 55% and now the fan is moving much more air than it was. The reason it was set so low is just its factor setting in order to keep the power bill down when it runs. I looked at the filters while I was here today. Both filters are in need of replacement, I only had on of the sizes on my van today. I replaced the April air filer today. The size of the other filter is 24x12x1. System was running properly when I left.
