CHS did the original work on our geothermal heat pump. Because we had a well, we went with an open loop system. We thought we would save money by not having to install a loop. Big mistake. While is it more efficient, the well pump runs far too much and actually causes an increase in the power bill. Plus, if your pump is down, the HVAC is down. Last Summer, Scott and a crew came out and converted our open system to a closed loop. WOW! Big difference. We chose to go with the no interest financing for 4 years. The savings on our power bill make the payment plus some left over. As for the geothermal heat itself, 68 degrees is just right. At 70, it'll run you out of the house. On the AC side, we leave it at 75 degrees. Any lower, and it's just too cold. We have had heat pumps where to get the house cool, you had to go to 68 and warm to 75 degrees. Geothermal seems to be different. Carolina did a great job and we continue to have our units serviced twice a year.
