I had a service call from one of Casteel's competitors last week, who informed me I would need a whole need system, both heating and cooling, as the motherboard on the furnace was shot. I had arranged for one of their sales people to meet today (he never showed; good for him, as he would've wasted his time). Last night, I went online and asked for a sales person from Casteel to show up today as well, thinking two quotes are better than one. Rachel emailed me twice, and called me, and said a salesperson (Shem) would be there today. Shem showed up around the time I requested. Instead of just going into a sales speil, he wanted to take a look at my system himself. Turns out in addition to sales, he was a service tech for 24 years. Anyway, he took about 45 minutes to check everything out. It seems I was "misdiagnosed". He replaced one fuse on the furnace and a single pole contact switch on the outside unit, and signed me up for a bi annual service contract. Total repair and parts were just a shade over $400. That's a lot better than the $4500 to $6200 I was looking at. My system was fine, it just needed someone talented, efficient and honest to look at it. Shem has made me a Casteel customer for life. I can't imagine anyone else working for Casteel who could represent a company in a better light. He is absolutely a credit to the hvac profession. I just wish other companies did business this way.
