Came out today for a no AC call. During inspection I found that the blower was not operating and it was due to a loose connection in the thermostat. The temperature split is was at 1. I connected my gauges and noticed that the system was empty of refrigerant. I also found that the capacitor rated at 40+5 was only giving off 25+3. I replaced the capacitor and explained to the homeowner that the system is completely empty and most likely has a large leak. I recommend replacing the unit but the homeowner declined. I then recommend charging the system and adding super seal so we can attempt to find the leak in the future. The homeowner stated that he just wanted the capacitor and the refrigerant. I explained that we can charge the system but can not guarantee that it won't leak. I added 5 lbs of 410-A and the temperature split is now at 19. The system is operating at this time.
