Broke waterline…then broke more waterlines

I am compelled to share my recent experience with Hot2Cold as a cautionary tale for prospective customers. My encounter with this company left much to be desired, to say the least. If I could rate them zero stars, I would do so without hesitation. The best way to judge a contractor is if they leave your home better than they found it. It is safe to say that the people over at Hot2Cold left my home worse than when they entered. I initially contacted Hot2Cold to request an estimate for replacing my AC unit and ductwork. I reached out in the morning, and they said they had availability that day from 10-12. Troy Andersen showed up at 11 and proceeded to carelessly break a waterline before noon. Luckily, I heard the water leaking and managed to prevent further damage by quickly shutting off the water supply. However, Troy remained silent for the next 30 minutes, leaving me in the dark about the situation. Finally, he reluctantly admitted to the mishap and begrudgingly committed to fixing it. I asked Troy if he had ever done this before. He responded, “of course, I know how to do it. I used to do installations for water heaters.” However, what ensued was a series of missteps and delays that exposed serious shortcomings in Hot2Cold's professionalism and competence. Troy's prolonged absence to procure parts from Home Depot, followed by multiple trips due to incorrect purchases, only exacerbated the situation. By 3:30 PM, further damage occurred, prompting Troy to acknowledge his limitations and suggest deferring to a more experienced technician the following day because he’s just the “salesguy” and he doesn’t do this type of stuff. Turns out…he’s not a plumber. At this point, he gives me the option of him continuing to try and fix what he’s broken or have another more experienced guy come at 1 pm – 3 pm tomorrow. By this time, I’m getting frustrated and call the office and communicate to them they need to send someone first this in the morning and not at 1 pm – 3pm. They said they rescheduled their most experienced guy, Berry Davignon, to come at 8 am but he showed up after 10 am. By 2 o’clock, he had made the problem worse and gave up having broken more pipes and torn down my firewall. Berry proceeded to tell me that they were going to send an actual plumber and that he was 45 minutes away. The office told me they would send information about this plumber…they never did. He finally arrived at 6 pm but I had to leave for a scheduled event and didn’t want an unsupervised stranger in my home…plus, he didn’t have the right parts. Finally, at 2:30 pm, three days later my water was back up and running. At no point did Hot2Cold seem to regard this as an urgent matter. I reached out to the Department of Business & Professional Regulation and found out that Hot2Cold doesn’t have a license for plumbing and neither do Troy or Berry. I am currently working on filing a formal complaint. I think it is safe to avoid this company. Beyond this disaster, the quotes for replacing my unit were insane. This guy didn’t listen to a thing I said plus he is charging thousands of more than the competition. Hot2Cold Quote: 3 Ton Franklin / Goodman 14 SEER $10,981.54 3 Ton Franklin / Goodman 15 SEER $13,103.10 Both these quotes were without ductwork which I wanted done. Caldeco gave me an estimate for a 3 Ton 16 SEER unit and duct work for $13,478 and an additional $2,000 to upgrade to their nicest Carrier unit. Air Quality Control gave me an estimate for 3 Ton 16 SEER Carrier unit for $10,241.36 with no ductwork. Air Pros gave me a quote of $9,480 for a 3.5 Ton 14.3 SEER Goodman unit and $10,483 for a 3.5 16 SEER Goodman. Chill Masters $6,000 3 Ton 14 SEER American Standard These guys are taking advantage of people. My hope is that by sharing my dreadful experience, others can avoid similar misfortune. In conclusion, my interaction with Hot2Cold was a cautionary tale of incompetence, poor communication, and inflated pricing. I implore Hot2Cold to reevaluate their practices, prioritize customer satisfaction, and implement measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
