Jake Kring. 01-30-25. I arrived for a previous customer new location no heat call. I spoke with the homeowner and found that the heat stopped working and then they the thermostat. I inspected the system and found all equipment to be a 6 year old carrier system. 4 ton in size and a 14 seer system. I found the thermostat wire to have two sets of wire one five wire and one three wire. Three sets of the five wire thermostat wire was shorted and was causing the system to not heat. I owed two set of wire from the three wire and got the system to run. This system is now configured as a four wire communicating system and will require a thermostat that has battery’s. The thermostat that the homeowners provided can use battery’s or run off the power of the furnace. I recommended to replace the thermostat wire from the thermostat to the furnace to correct the main issue and get the thermostat to run off the power of the system and it won’t have to use battery’s.
