Jake Kring. 02-29-25. I arrived for a new customer no heat call. I inspected the system and found it to be a 32 year old furnace with a slab coil. I found the system to cycle on but the hot surface igniter would not get hot to light the gas. I tested the system further and found the control board to be sending 67-83 V amps to the hot surface igniter constantly. When the sequence of operation would bring in the hot surface igniter to light the gas it would send 124 V to the hot surface igniter. I suspect that the hot surface igniter failed due to the control board sending power to the igniter constantly. We discussed replacing the hot surface igniter and control board but the homeowner had replaced the board his self previously and was going to replace the parts his self. I recommended to replace the system due to age and condition.
