Jake Kring. 02-10-25. I arrived for a duct work estimate to replace the existing duct work. I first spoke with the homeowner and found that they has some returns replaced already. I found the duct work to be mylar duct and is falling apart in the attic. The location on the system is in the garage and is by an outside wall. The roof line is very shallow at this location and the system is a 4 ton system with one 12” return duct. The duct is being sent to the top plate in the attic and feeds down to the return grills on the hallway. This system is running with undersized duct work. I explained that if we were to install a return plenum in between the back of the furnace and the water heater and run a remote plenum to both the supply and returns we can greatly increase the systems air flow and reduce the run time on the system needs to temper the air in all heating and cooling seasons.
