Jake Kring. 12-27-24. I arrived for a club member fall tune up on a 26 year old system. I inspected the system and found the heat exchanger to be cracked right under the high limit. The fracture is about 2.5-3” in length. I documented the fracture and tested the system in heating mode. I found the system to be dusty but all electrical components to be working within the manufacturer specifications. I replaced both filters and set the thermostat back to the homeowners thermostat settings. I also checked the systems CO level and found no readings at this time. I informed the homeowner of the issue with the furnace and recommended to replace the furnace at a minimum due to the hazard that the system has and that it is and can be a health hazard. I had the homeowner sign a heat exchanger failure form at this time. The homeowner is planning to move out in 3 years and wants to try to get the system to last until they move out.
