Arrived to the home due to the furnace not heating properly. Was greeted by the customer at the front door where I was shown where the furnace and thermostat were located. Customer said the furnace wasn’t working at all. I started looking at the 1998 Carrier furnace and noticed the furnace was locked out on “high limit lockout”, so I started looking at possible reasons why the high limit could be tripped and found a few issues. Found that blower motor was out of balance, also found that system only has 1-14” return which is not enough return for proper operation of the furnace and air conditioning, also the high limit it’s self is slightly weak as well. I reset the unit and tried to higher the fan speed to move more air but it still would trip limit, only could get furnace to run for about 2 min and 30 second before limit would trip out again.
