Tech found high suction pressure and low discharge pressure, both unstable, increasing and decreasing in an unusual manner. Subcool and superheat were both out of desired range, neither one was stable. Tech cycled reversing valve (see video), revealing a malfunctioning compressor. Tech suspects the internal compressor seals are leaking, and the compressor should be replaced. Confirmed with second opinion. Informed customer we can replace the compressor or the whole system and provided pros and cons to both options. Customer decided to replace compressor and if there are any major issues in the future, he will replace the system. Easy access to receptacle.
Performed routine maintenance per energy savings agreement. Technician did not find any challenges while servicing equipment today. The system is cooling properly and holding a delta t of 20 degrees. Recommendation- technician would recommend installing a hard start kit to the system. This will lower starting amperage and help preserve the longevity of the compressor. Customer declined at this time. Tech added to estimate for them.
