Incredibly expensive for what you get.



Called My Plumber early on Saturday morning to fix a broken water heater (electric). I had already pulled the access panel and saw the thermostat had shorted out (melted cover, burnt contactors). They told me since they installed the heater and it was only four years old, that it was covered under the manufacturer's warranty. They promised to get to me that day but called at 2pm to say they wouldn't make it afterall. I scheduled an appointment for the following Saturday since the house is a weekend retreat only. On Friday, I called to confirm the appointment. 20 minutes later, they called me to confirm (again!). I mentioned I already called them myself and was told some excuse about how that was for the appointment day and the second call was to confirm the time - really??? The tech, Jermaine, showed on time, but then told me that I had opted for the "no warranty" install when originally put in. Yes, I argued, that was for the labor - but the parts should still be covered by the manufacturer. He called his manager and denied me ANY coverage for a tank that was only FOUR years old. Then Jermaine quoted me three options - the CHEAPEST of which was to replace the thermostats for $800!!! Shoot, the original replacement was $1,200! Not having any real choice as I needed the hot water, I agreed, but I feel ripped off to the extreme. My Plumber is a joke - don't come out when they promise, claim warranty coverage then deny it, and then charge you exhorbitant prices. If this happens again, I know already that I can go to Grainger and spend $20 in parts to fix the water heater myself. TOTAL RIP OFF!! BTW - did some post repair online research. According to national consumer review sites, the AVERAGE cost to replace the electric water heater thermostats SHOULD have been between $100 to $400. AVOID MY PLUMBER! THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF!
