Customer called about a leaking water heater. Tank is a HTP 80g electric we installed March 1, 2018. Offered to do a diagnostic to determine the source of the leak, customer accepted. Shut off power to the unit, removed both upper and lower panels. Lower panel is completely corroded and upper thermostat bracket is corroding. Found a small leak coming from behind the upper thermostat bracket from beneath the element and behind the bracket. Wiped up water and saw water potentially weeping from the weld behind the bracket. Called HTP tech support and spoke with Andrew at HTP tech support. Tank is under lifetime warranty. He reached out to me via email requesting pictures of the unit and the damage. Responded to the email and CC’d the office. Spoke with the customer and explained that it is now up to HTP to determine what we’re going to do to remedy the situation.
