a true blessing

I really made a great choice having David as my lawyer. He seemed to care about helping me and not making a quick buck. When we reached a stumbling block he did not hesitate to go to my defense to clear up the miscommunication. I've already referred David to others because we need people who are concerned and actually love what they do. I am so thankful for his help and quick response to my situation. I'd recommend the law office to anyone who's case they can help. Thanks David

Just got another dismissal for a client, this time on a trespassing case in Dallas County. Being an effective lawyer is in some ways like being a winning professional golfer. Sometimes it takes a brilliant long shot, other times a sensational putt, but making the "routine" plays over and over without fail is what ends up makes the biggest difference.

Filed a writ of habeas corpus to have a bond set on a felony possession of THC concentrate out of Tarrant County. Client is out of jail now (4am). Our writ kept client from being transferred to the Tarrant County Jail. Also kept him from having to wait to be booked in and arraigned. Sometimes they get arraigned the same day. Sometimes not.

Started the month off by getting a client's Tampering with Evidence case No-Billed by the Grand Jury. Normally we write about a page and a half maximum to get a No-Bill but for this one it was four and a half pages. Part of it was having to explain what was going on with his 7 other cases in 2 counties. But it was also explaining what's going on in his life that he's been getting all these cases. We're one felony closer to getting all this over with.

Got a disorderly conduct dismissed for a client at the City of Dallas today, an assault family violence for another client, and two traffic violations for a third client. It was dismissal day. Would have had a bunch more if one of my clients hadn't shown up late. But we got him reset so he can have another shot. He almost cost himself a ton of money. If you're coming to trial at the city, be on time. It makes all the difference.

Kept a CDL driver out of trouble by getting two moving violations dismissed. That's not an easy thing as courts can't give deferred on moving violations for CDL drivers. That means we either have to win at trial, find a legal reason for dismissal or the client takes convictions.

Had a client reach the end of the court's and prosecutor's patience regarding his no-shows on court settings. We managed to make it a long way with good explanations and reasons. And a good lawyer can smooth over a lot of problems. But there's always a limit. Short of being an astronaut in orbit or a deployed soldier, judges generally want their defendants in court. That's what bonds are supposed to encourage. But when that encouragement is not enough, the judge will hold the bonds insufficient. Game's not over yet though.

At the city of Dallas again for a client who has a shoebox full of tickets. We are trying to get them all dismissed but won't know how it turns out for another few weeks. Enforcement has been down in Dallas for quite a while so we see fewer clients with so many tickets. But we can do a lot of good for them when they decide it's finally time to invest in getting their license and their driving sorted out.

Today I represented a couple of good friends on some stupid little city ordinance violations. They were trying to do good but ended up each being charged with a crime. Don't know how that could happen? Well what if you tried to leave your half eaten Whopper and fries lying around where lots of homeless people pass and a cop sees you and cites you for littering? That's the kind of thing we're talking about but on a slightly larger scale. Anyway, bottom line is we got both cases dimsissed.

Had a stop sign ticket for a commercial driver's license (CDL) holder set for trial today in the city of Dallas Municipal Court. I was kind of excited about this one because even though it's just a little traffic ticket it's big for my client and I had about 3 different ways to beat it. I was looking forward to surprising the prosecutor. But alas, she dismissed it saying the officer had no recall of the stop. So we get to go home earlier, but we didn't have nearly as much fun.

Client had a very difficult time completing conditions to lead up to her receiving time served on a DWI. In the end, she couldn't prove that she had done anything but could describe what she had done. Bottom line is she had been through the wringer no matter how you slice it so we were able to get the prosecutor to agree to time served without proof of the conditions being completed. Good prosecutors recognize when enough is enough so we got the job done finally. Time served.

Posted bonds for jail release on a client in the Lew Sterrett Jail for Assault and Evading Arrest. He's not pulling up on their jail lookup system anymore so he's either out already or on his way out. Next step, meeting with him about case strategies.

Had 90 percent of our ticket docket dismissed today for a wide variety of technical flaws in the paperwork (and a couple of old cases). It pays to go over the files for mistakes. We even found some dismissals from Highland Park. A good day in court and a nice way to start the weekend for our clients!

Left Garland after posting bonds on traffic tickets for City of Garland Municipal Court. They're sending a release to Dallas County so Lew Sterrett will let him out. Then we'll take them to court to try to get them dismissed. We're almost always able to get dismissals. As they say in Texas, "It ain't braggin' if you can actually do it!"

The court across the hall at Crowley was surrounded by cameras and news crews. I sat in for the testimony of one of the homicide detectives. It's the murder for hire trial of the trigger man who allegedly shot and killed that pretty young dentist in the parking garage of her uptown apartment back in 2015.

Fixing a bond forfeiture on a client's case. Bond company never told him of his court date and when we checked it had already passed. It's a felony theft charge and we're aiming for a dismissal.
