One of the benefits of Chapter 13 is to be able to cram down and eliminate second mortgages. Today we're were successful and eliminating a second mortgage saving a client over $190,000!
Meeting with clients to determine whether a chapter 13 or mortgage foreclosure defense is better. If a homeowner reaches out to an attorney early on - it gives them more flexibility.
This afternoon I was in court fighting to keep a chapter 13 from being dismissed. Debtors need to file all their tax returns in a chapter 13 bankruptcy. Otherwise the case could be dismissed. My client obtained a short extension to get the returns filed.
This morning I attended a hearing to collect condominium assessments. We were able to enter into an agreement that resolved the problem.
A chapter 13 can obtain a loan modification. Today the court approved a loan modification for my client so that he no longer needs to be in a bankruptcy.
In Philadelphia my Chapter 7 clients have been receiving their discharge orders with 5 weeks after they meet with the Trustee.

I just met with a prospective client who incurred thousands of dollars in debt when she was unemployed. Now that she is working she is struggling to pay her bills and worries about the debt. A chapter 7 will solve her problems by eliminating her credit card debt and the whole matter can be resolved in 4 months.
I just met with a prospective client who has a lot of credit card bills from when she was unemployed. She is back to work now, but the credit card debt is keeping her up at night. If she files a chapter 7, we can eliminate all her debt and she will be able to sleep again.
I just met with a couple from Delaware County who are facing a mortgage foreclosure. We will defend the foreclosure action for a year to allow the owners to raise enough income to keep their home.
