When you do not water for a few weeks grass naturally goes dormant. Many lawns can tolerate drought for four to six weeks, although it will turn brown. Periods of time that are longer than 6 weeks can kill the grass and if the grass is totally dead due to drought, there's no way to bring it back until the next season.
