5:30 PM on Thursday, January 31, 2019, The Day with Sub-Zero (-23 degrees) and Windy Weather, walked into the 1st floor of the house and felt a little cool. The downstairs furnace was working and went upstairs to the 2nd floor. The upstairs furnace was working and blowing out only cold air. The temperature on the upstairs thermostat read 58 degrees. Turned off the heating switch on the thermostat, but the furnace kept running blowing out cold air. Had to turn off the switch attached to the furnace to stop the furnace running. Called my HVAC service that has serviced the system for 5 years and kept getting an answering machine recording. Message said that due to extremely high volume of service requests to leave a name and phone number and they would contact when an opening occurs. Also from Thursday through Sunday the charge for service would be at double time. Contacted my wife at work who then talked with a co-worker who gave her the info for their HVAC service, Air-Smart, My wife got me the info and at about 7 PM after the 3rd ring I was talking with a gentleman and told my saga to him. He apologized for not being able to get to us that evening and could have a service person at our place at 10:30 AM Friday. He also gave me some ideas as to get slightly more heat upstairs on a temporary basis. Sure enough on Friday received a call from Air-Smart (Rich) checking to be sure someone was home and at 10:30 AM our doorbell was ringing. We went upstairs to the furnace room and he went right to work and after about 45 minutes came back downstairs. He explained what the problems were, the high limit switch was tripped and the carbon current safety switch was dirty and loose. He reset the one switch and cleaned and tried to tighten the other switch. He also cleaned the furnace evaporation and condensation drain tubes as well as the furnace humidifier drain tube. He said the two parts are working now and recommended that they be replaced and gave us their prices. We asked that they be replaced and he apologized that he didn't have them on the truck. He checked with the office and said he could be back Saturday at 10:30 AM to replace the parts. There would be no service charge for the Saturday replacement of the parts. Rich was here at 10:30 AM Saturday. As a side note Rich did call Friday evening to check if the furnace was working with the old parts. Thanks Rich,that showed a great deal of concern for our well-being. Yes, at the end of March, 2019 Air-Smart has earned our HVAC maintenance business. Thank You, Joe for your involvement.
