Performed diagnostic on system. 25+ years old. Homeowner states system is not cooling. Had another company come out a few years ago and told him it was low on refrigerant, but never added refrigerant because of the price. Cycled system for cooling. System came on and after about 5 minutes compressor went off on thermal lockout, and was extremely hot to the touch. System is receiving proper voltage and secondary motor control is within range. Could not check refrigerant pressures but system does have some refrigerant in it, not completely empty. Compressor is giving out. Went over findings and recommendations with homeowner. Because of the age of the equipment and the cost of a new r-22 compressor, homeowner ultimately decided that it was best to just replace the system. Would like to get quotes from other companies, advised him that we do offer price matching if from comparable company. System is not operational upon departure. Will follow up next week.
