When I arrived at unit, I was told heating didn’t operate. I ran thermostat in heating mode and went out to furnace. You could hear system wanting to start and smart valve clicking in and out. Smart valve was getting power, also the spark igniter. There is a motherboard in spark igniter box. Every time I kept tapping it, it would open and start burners for one second. Spark igniter is failing and part can’t be found in any distributions. System is thirty plus years. Owner is having construction done to home, and will notify us about potential replacement when ready. Model and serial to the furnace is not readable. Charging for diagnostic only today.

Arrived on site to perform two system furnace diagnostic. Upon arrival Client Stated that another company had came out and said that the units had to be replaced due to inefficiencies. At this time client states that both units are operational. Begin diagnostic at right wing of house unit And found that unit was installed backwards not giving an easy access for service. Return intakes are under size and not supplying the proper CFM for Airflow. System was retrofitted incorrectly. Indoor blower Aaron mixing cabinet is heavily covered in dust and debris. Static pressure on unit is two times higher than what it is designed for due to undersize ducting. Temperature rise was in range. Inspected left side unit and found that unit is from 1994 with the original AC. Unit has no secondary drain pan on evaporator coil. Static pressure is extremely high due to undersized returning take What’s a result in higher energy bills. Indoor blower cabinet is also covered in dust and debris significantly

Replaced filter which was considerably restrictive with new merv11 filter. The static pressure dropped dramatically after this. Replaced the high voltage power supply with new whip with a proper earth ground. Relocated the zone board off the top of the furnace and mounted it onto the support truss. Extended the low voltage wiring between the zone board and the furnace circuit board with new wires. Ensured extra wires were grounded to common. Replaced 40VA transformer powering zone board and air scrubber with a 75VA to tolerate the load. Tested system and equipment is operating properly at this time.

Recorded static pressures and supply temperatures for each individual zone. As well as all zones together. Tested heating in minimum and max heat pump and stage 1 and 2 gas heating. All temperatures look okay. Filter is clean. Ordered high limit switch for the furnace to replace under parts warranty. Return to replace high limit switch for indoor furnace
