Came out to call for a system not cooling properly. Customer stated that the unit seemed to be running but not cooling, thought it might be a freon issue. I checked system over and found compressor locked out. Sensor was reading high LRA, and the hard start kit had failed. Told customer what I found and recommended. Made homeowner aware of unit having weak windings, and that I would try another hard start kit to get it going. I replaced the hard start kit on the unit. Cycled system on and unit came on, Amps were lower but compressor sounded rough. Told customer that I couldn’t guarantee that the new hard start kit will get the unit through the summer or not. Recommended customer plan on replacement of unit soon. Unit is a 12 year old Goodman system we installed. Customer stated that he would give us a call if it starts acting up again for replacement.
