Job Checkin

Arrived to call for AC breaker tripping intermittently. Upon arrival I had the thermostat call for cooling and made my way to the outdoor unit. Here I began by checking all electrical connections to be secure and no signs of arching. After this I began checking the equipment performance. While the system was running the compressor and fan were drawing correct amperage. The run capacitor that fed these was performing within spec as well. I then performed start up tests checking the inrush current of the compressor. Here I found the compressor pulling more current than what it was rated for during startup. The systems LRA is 117 amps and during startup the system was pulling 125. This causes the compressor to pull more energy than what it is rated for during startup. The way we help start systems up that have developed worn bearings is to add a hard start which stores energy in a capacitor and applies it during startup. This allows the system to start with enough power and doesn’t draw a
