Upon arrival the technician determined that the downstairs system is the system that is having a problem the heat from downstairs is rising which is causing the temperatures upstairs to rise. Both systems are extremely old and in poor condition. There are also not any float switches installed on either the upstairs or the downstairs system. Furthermore the return intake is not large enough to support 3 tons of cooling. The best resolution to this problem would be proactive replacement of both the upstairs and the downstairs system due to age and overall condition. However in order to restore cooling the outdoor conditioning unit servicing the downstairs portion of the house will need to be replaced to prevent further refrigerant loss. This will restore cooling at the present time however there’s no guarantee that there will not be future failures due to the overall condition of the entire system
