Upon my arrival I replaced the air filters with ones provided by the customer. I then operated the furnace and checked the temperature rise. All electrical components are in sound condition inside the furnace. The heat pump was checked in heat pump mode, defrost mode and auxiliary heat mode. This unit is operating properly except the voltage distribution system outdoors was burnt and so was the black wire that goes to the compressor winding. I replaced the contactor and cut out several inches past the burnt wire and put a new terminal end on it. I tested the operation afterwards. Both units are operating normal. Replace voltage distribution system on Rheem heat pump and repair burnt compressor wire that caused the contactor to burn. The HWH does not have an expansion tank installed and I believe the noises the customer described are related to the stresses of excess pressure against the heater core.
