Replaced tandem compressors for Desert Aire unit. Removed entire charge, removed compressors, brazed in new compressors, wired everything back together, pressurized with nitrogen and found no leaks, vacuumed down to 500 micron. When we returned power to the unit the potential relay for 1 of the compressors blew up. Traced everything back and found a ground wire had broken off inside relay and shorted it out. Need to return with potential relay, add remaining charge (13lbs) and test system. Did not collect because repair isn’t complete.

Performed pm on all units on site. Found User interface for Desert Aire 1 not showing but still following program, office will follow up with quote to replace. Found Tandem Compressors for Desert Aire 2 tripping contactor because they are grounded, need to be replaced. Office will follow up with quote. Found humidifier Solenoid for unit 3 not feeding water, quoting to replace. Found carrier HeatPump Outdoor fan running loud and overamping, quoting to replace. Finally, I found capacitors for Units 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 out of spec, quoting to replace. All units are heating normally besides Desert Aire 2.

Performed pm on all 6 units. Replaced provided filters. Flushed drains out with brush and hot water. Tested condensate pumps. Checked cleanliness of coils and blowers. Measured specs of capacitors and contactors. Found units 1,3,5 capacitors slightly out of spec, quoting customer to replace. Tightened electrical connections. Ran ac. Measured amp draw of compressors, blowers, and loop pumps. Measured delta loop pressures and temps. Measured delta air temps. Let systems satisfy thermostats. All units are operating normal. Also quoting customer to install media filter in cottage, only system using 2inch filters, 24x28x2.

There was evidently a power surge. Upon arrival I found burnt wires coming from the main system contactor. The blower would not operate. I told the customer I would need to repair these before I could test the unit. Once the burnt wires were replaced the blower was the only thing that worked. The zone board is corrupt as well as the 2 boards in the unit that operate the compressors. I tried to get the unit to run on auxiliary heat but the zone board despite having inputs from each Tstat would never energize the auxiliary heat contacts. I manually jumped them out and the auxiliary heat did operate. I could not leave it jumped out because it would never turn off. I made an estimate to replace the main zone board and the two boards that operate the 2 compressors. I took pictures of the parts. Customer needs to contact insurance before approval of the repairs. Customer paid for the burnt wires to be fixed. I would suspect a surge from a storm damaged the electronics.
