Customer noticed staining on the ceiling near where the air handler is above in the attic about 2-3 weeks ago. I visually inspected attic, space above stains and found a 3 to 4 foot portion of exposed uninsulated PVC. Because the PVC is in a horizontal position it is prone to sweat when the attic space is much hotter than the ice cold water flowing through the drain line. There is evidence where the drain line meets the wooden beam of water, stains, and the water stains are directly above the staining in the ceiling. The water followed the path of least resistance about a half a foot away, and dripped down above the ceiling, causing the staining. While visually inspecting the air handler and drain, I also looked inside of the air handler cabinet. The evaporator coil is fairly clean. However, I still suggest some type of indoor air quality unit to help keep the quality of air in the home, and the inside of the air handler and duct clean.
