In Branford, CT, bid farewell to a faithful 20-year-old Trane furnace, replaced by a new Trane S9B1 gas furnace. The upgrade ensures reliable heating for years ahead. Grateful for the old furnace's service, yet embracing modern efficiency and comfort. Keeping homes warm and cozy with trusted Trane solutions.

Effectively resolved a heating concern in Branford, CT by fixing a malfunctioning igniter within the HVAC system. The faulty igniter was hindering the heating process. The residence was cold, and when I turned up the thermostat I could hear clicking but the furnace never turned on, and I did not see the ignitor blazing through the louvers. The problem was definitely with the ignitor. I replaced the defective part and quickly warmed the home back up.

Performed a heating pm on an oil boiler. Brushed and vacuumed. Replaced the oil filter, nozzle and strainer. Started and checked the safeties. Performed a combustion test. System is operating properly. The domestic water coil has a lot of corrosion around one fitting and on the coil plate. Recommend replacing the domestic water coil. There is also corrosion on a hi-vent showing that there was a leak. Recommend replacing. The boiler is a steel boiler and getting up there in age. Recommend replacing in the future.

Checked system in heat mode, discharge temp only went up to 71°. Switched to cooling and checked the pressures, system was low on charge added 1 lb. 12 oz R-410a to system. System was discharging 53° In cooling, 125° in heating. Removed line set covers check fittings, there was no oil connections for the indoor unit, checked with bubbles did not see any leaks at the unions. Found a trace of dye on circuit “A” line set connection at the condenser. Tightened and checked with bubbles. System is running properly. If this happens again recommend checking all four indoor units for possible leak.

Performed an heating maintenance. Changed the nozzle filter and strainer. The old nozzle was clogged. The boiler was extremely dirty. Cleaned the heat exchanger and flue pipe. Tested the transformer. It is starting to get on the weaker sign. May need to replace in the future. Adjusted the electrodes. Started and tested. Adjusted the oxygen levels to 8.0%. Had 7ppm. No smoke. The gasket for the top clean out cover is gone. I put furnace cement all around where the gasket would have been. Could have been part of the issue as to why it was so dirty.
