Customer called due to open air splices in the attic. I found whoever wired the fan cut a 14-3 wire and open air spliced it to a extension cord wire that fed the ceiling fan. Also found the fan was attached to a light fixture box So I installed a side mounted ceiling fan rated box and ran a new 14-3 romex wire out of the fan and put in a new work box and spliced the wires together then came out of that new work box and installed the other cut wires in another new work box and attached all those wires together. Then blanked them off. I installed the customers fan. The light fixture on the fan doesn’t work and didn’t before I worked on it. Most likely needs a new light fixture or a new fan I installed a customer supplied bathroom exhaust fan motor swap kit
