Today we performed a minor troubleshoot for no power to kitchen counter top plugs. Upon observation and talking with Joseph there were multiple areas of the house having serious electrical issues (smoking, burn marks, and random power loss). Findings: the GFCI controlling the kitchen counter top plugs was fried and discolored from overheating. Upon inspection of the panel there was severe discoloration on the bus bar. Also Joseph has a challenger panel which is known for fires, failure, and damage to high dollar equipment such as HVAC systems, Ovens, computers, and other equipment. To make home safe an electrical system upgrade is required. Electrician Kevin Jackson and supervisor and master electrician Marco are coming back out tomorrow 12/31 to address these urgent hazards with solutions Replaced every switch and every outlet in the entire home replaced panel meter base and added grounding also walked with the customer to comfirm the function of every outlet. Arrived to look at issue with the garage circuit after we had already worked on it the line had lost power. Remade the connection in the back of the box and found that the gfci that we had installed had faulted out as when in a certain position or movement the power to the load side terminal would cease. Replaced the fault device and operated the Christmas lights and garage door to verify the issue resolved.
Arrived on the job site and the customer stated that two outlets on the garage/outdoor circuit were not working. I inspected the GFCI and found it in critical condition. The low side showed blue and orange discoloration on the brass terminals, indicating overheating or a loose connection causing arcing. I replaced the GFCI and also noticed that one of the lines had not been connected, so I reconnected it properly. After reinstalling everything and restoring power, all outlets were working correctly. I also observed that the customer has several items on this circuit, including Christmas lights and a freezer, but none of them are overloading the circuit at this time. The customer understands that the new GFCI outlet comes with a five-year warranty and is 100% satisfied with today’s visit.
