I was called to inspect a commercial building and found that one of the fire extinguishers was not working properly. The pressure gauge was in the red zone, indicating that it was undercharged and potentially unusable in an emergency. I removed the extinguisher from service and replaced it with a properly charged unit from the truck. I then documented the issue, tagged the faulty extinguisher for maintenance, and scheduled it for recharge and testing. I also reviewed the location and ensured all extinguishers on-site were easily accessible and up to code.
Checked in with the client to perform the annual inspection of the backflow prevention device and found it failing to hold pressure during the test. Diagnosed the issue as a worn-out check valve causing water to flow in the reverse direction. Replaced the faulty check valve and retested the system. The backflow prevention device is now holding pressure properly and compliant with code requirements.
